Earth Round-Up is set for April 19
The Little River Watershed Association and Keep Blount
Beautiful have teamed u
p with the Blount County Chamber of Commerce Air Quality
Team to bring the first Blount County Earth Roundup to town this Saturday,
April 19. The event will consist of
morning and evening activities.
The morning activities will include the clean up of the banks of the Little River and Blount County roadways and parks. Volunteer check-in is from 8 am - 10 am at the Thompson Brown House at 1004 East Lamar Alexander Parkway. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and a coupon to bring back in the afternoon for free BBQ or pizza. For more information, contact LRWA (980-2130) or KBB (681-4809). Clean up activities officially end at 2 pm.
Evening activities and Educational Fair start at 5 pm and end at 8 pm on the front lawn at Maryville College Campus on the corner of Hwy. 321 and Washington Street. Learn how to live mean and green with Blount County air, water and land resources. There will be a fun learning activity (Living Green Passport) for kids 6-16 years old. Those who participate have a chance to win a new bicycle. Pickup passports at KBB or LRWA booths, get instructions and enter to win the bike. Bike winners will be announced between 7:15 pm - 7:30 pm.
Music and entertainment throughout the evening includes: Pistol Creek Catch of the Day, Mac Bartine and The Woodpickers; inflated hot air balloon display from 7 - 8 pm. Activities for the kids include the moonwalk, the Living Green Passport Contest as well as other special surprises. Check out the LRWA or KBB booth for more information.
Ride a bike to Earth Round-up. Meet at locations near the Greenbelt at 4:45 pm and take the bike train to the Round-up at Maryville College. Bicycle valet parking will be provided by Boy Scout Troop 87, look for the signs at the entrance of the college campus. To see a bike train map, see www.littleriverwatershed.org.
Donate $1 to enter a contest for door prizes and win gift certificates from the Tomato Head Restaurant, Keen Shoes (courtesy of Little River Trading Company) and more. Some great fishing auction items and door prizes are also available courtesy of Little River Outfitters of Townsend.
The Earth Roundup will be a waste free event - no trash cans on site. Maryville Recycles will be staffing the recycling center. Keep Blount Beautiful will be onsite collecting cell phones and accessories for recycling.

Townsend in the Smokies Spring Festival
Bring a lawn chair, enjoy genuine bluegrass music and spring
festivities for the entire family at the Townsend in the Smokies Spring
Festival on April 25th through the 27th
and again May 2nd and 3rd. Activities will be held at the Townsend Visitors Center,
7906 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway. Admission to the festival is free. This event is hosted by the Blount Chamber

State Legislative Coffee Friday, May 2
Use the Blount Chamber to stay current on state government issues that could affect business. The second State Legislative coffee is scheduled for May 2, 8 a.m. at the Blount Chamber. All members are invited to attend and talk with Senator Finney and Representatives Doug Overbey and Joe McCord. Speed Networking
Members, sign up today for a great marketing opportunity. The Chamber's Speed Networking event is set for May 13, 11:30 a.m. at the Airport Hilton. This event allows members to exchange business information in a fun, relaxed "speed dating" style format.
At the end of the speed networking rounds, attendees will be given ample time to connect with potential new customers or clients. There will be 36 members participating.
This event is free to members, however, there will be a $25 charge if reservations are not cancelled within 24 hours. To register, call Amy Lawson at 983-2241 or email alawson@blountchamber.com.
